The Secret Agent

An emotional and totally gripping WW2 historical novel

I sent Sylvie to carry out her work in Nantes for two reasons. Firstly because there was no SOE cell based there so I could have free reign with creating mine, and secondly because it is one of my favourite cities to visit. I’d encourage everyone to get there if possible. The locations mentioned such as the Jardin des Plantes, Passage Pommeraye and Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne still exist, along with the more recent addition of a giant, mechanical, rideable elephant at the Machines de L’Ile which now stands on the site of old factories and shipyards.

Some of the situations Sylvie finds herself in were inspired by real life incidents reported by members of SOE. Any inaccuracies in the described training or work methods are entirely my fault.

My name is Sylvie Duchene and I am a dancer. There is no network. I am just a dancer. I know nothing. Please…I swear it…

An unknown location, occupied France, 1944

Dropping silently behind enemy lines, Sylvia Crichton, codename Monique, is determined to fight for the country of her birth and tear it from its Nazi stranglehold.

As one of the dancers at the nightclub Mirabelle, Sylvie’s mission is to entertain the club’s German clientele and learn their secrets. In a world of deception and lies, she can trust no one. Not even Mirabelle’s mysterious piano player Felix… a part of the resistance or a collaborator?

But despite her SOE training, nothing can prepare Sylvie for the horrors she witnesses – or the pain of losing those she grows close to undercover…

This is a pageturning and gripping romance set in occupied France during WW2 for fans of Pam Jenoff !
